Cocktails & New Perspectives
Johns Hopkins University faculty and staff attended a special event at the George Peabody Library on October 26th, 2017. Attendees included approximately 175 colleagues representing all JHU divisions and key AHW partners working on global health, sustainable development, environment, gender and social justice.
The event was the first in a series by the new Alliance for a Healthier World, designed to enhance multidisciplinary research cooperation between JHU divisions.
Using a balance of networking, facilitated small-table discussions and creative performances, the attendees made new contacts and gained perspectives from other disciplines.
FACILITATED DISCUSSIONS. A key feature of the event format - the Health Equity Café - used an innovative World Café method designed to bring diverse people together and spark meaningful conversations. It helped faculty get to know people who they wouldn’t ordinarily work with. Learn more about our Health Equity Cafe activity for this event.
MUSIC CONNECTION TO HEALTH EQUITY. The event featured remarks, as well as interactive performances responding to the evening’s conversations, by Peabody Conservatory faculty, staff, and students.
RARE ICONIC DOCUMENTS Books on display
To support the concept of valuing knowledge from multiple disciplinary, event attendees got up close to special editions of several iconic works including:
- Charles Darwin’s Origin of the Species
- Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations
